He holds a Masters in Interdisciplinary Information Studies from the University of Tokyo, and a Bachelor of Design and Arts from Musashino Art University. Since 1998 he has been working as a designer in areas such as graphics, product design, media, architecture, interior design etc. Furthermore, since 2007 he has been working as a professor in design and management at the College of Business Administration, Ritsumeikan University. His research focuses on the systematic summarization of knowledge related to design management studies, design-driven innovation and design thinking in the field of business administration. He organizes many industry-academia collaboration projects in Japan. Currently, he is planning to add design knowledge to the contents of the human resource development program (focusing particularly on cultivating the leadership of the next era) in various Japanese companies (those of which are not limited to design firms).
